Meta Month of March: Rules and Dates
Welcome to the Meta Month of March, a month-long meta festival. (Here is one definition of fannish meta.) Any sort of meta is accepted - fandom-specific meta, or general discussion about fandom, writing, vidding, etc. You may follow us, sign up, and post on LJ, DW, or both.

Sign-ups

You don't need to be signed up to post meta for the fest.

Sign-ups are taking place in the second half of February. We've posted a sign-up sheet; you can post a comment telling us the topic that you want to write about, and which day in March you'd like to post it. If you're having trouble thinking of something to write about, there is a post for requesting and suggesting meta topics, as well as a post with some meta resources. (This is not intended to limit you in any way. You can write about anything, whether or not it's already been discussed, and regardless of whether anyone suggests it. But sometimes it's useful to have a starting point!)

Posting

On your posting day, you can either post your meta directly to this community, or post it in your journal and link to it from this community or its DW mirror. If you post your meta to LJ and DW and allow comments on both, please consider linking the posts to each other so people don't miss any of the discussion.

This is a low-pressure fest: there is no penalty for dropping out or posting late, and you do not need to notify us.

Your meta post does not have to be long, but it should be:

- Written or co-written by you
- New (as opposed to posted months ago)
- Posted on LJ and/or DW (though it can be crossposted elsewhere)
- Unlocked
- Open to comments from people not on your friends list/reading circle

You are always welcome to post meta you didn't sign up for, including but not limited to follow-ups on and responses to previous discussions.

During March

Once posting starts, we will post weekly round-ups of all meta entries, collating the links from LJ and DW.

The mods do not plan to review meta posts for content. Trigger or content warnings will be posted at the individual meta-writer's discretion. Please click at your own risk and understand that you may be entering spaces that are not safe for you.

However, if you notice any threatening, abusive, or offensive language or behavior in this community, please bring it to our attention. The mods reserve the right to remove a post or link if we feel it is necessary.

Dates

- 10th February: Requesting/suggesting post and resource post will go up
- 15th February: Sign-ups will open
- 1st March: Posting begins

Just curious how much fandom needs to be referenced in the meta. I've been working on meta concerning pirating in response to the whole MegaUpload thing, but while I have made a couple of references to fandom, it has definitely not been the focus. I do want some fandom based responses, though, because I do talk about universal access and that would definitely make things easier on the fans.

Hi there! You don't need to focus on fandom particularly so long as the topic is something that's relevant to fandom, which this definitely would be. :)

I'm supposed to post tomorrow, but I have to drop (RL issues eating my time and brain). How do I do that, or is this comment enough?

This is fine, no problem! And feel free to post your meta on another day instead if you find the time!

Yeah, I have a question: Will there be another round? The last time, I only learned about this when it was more or less over.

Yes, we're hoping to have another round next year if there's interest. It was a great turn-out this time, so I think chances are good. :)
